Around the world, from the Arab Spring to Chinese Anti-Corruption Campaigns to African Crisis Mapping to Occupy Wall Street, people are using mobile phones & online social networks/media to become activists & communicate important information.

News organisations like CNN have tapped into the power of the crowd to source original news content from ordinary citizens. The CNN iPhone app, iReport, lets individuals upload personal videos from newsworthy events.

The Amnesty Observer App is a mobile application that allows the user to very easily record and upload evidence of human rights violations and unlawful detentions they are witness to. This material can then be vetted and distributed by Amnesty as evidence and to raise awareness.
